2023-2024 Treble Choir ❖ Jing Ling-Tam


Jing Ling-Tam is Professor of Music at the University of Texas Arlington. She has garnered international recognition in North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. A brilliant conductor, Ling-Tam has conducted over forty All-State Choirs in the US and numerous American Choral Directors Association national and division honor choirs. An innovative and much sought after clinician and master teacher, she has been featured as a headliner at prestigious international, national, regional, and state choral conferences. As Director of Choral Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington (1999-2009), UTA choirs have performed at national and regional ACDA conferences, as well as at Texas Music Educators Association Conferences. Under her direction, UTA choirs toured in the US, Mexico, Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Austria. Ling-Tam served as Associate Conductor, Chorus Master, and Principal Coach Pianist for the Fort Worth Opera Association for sixteen seasons and was on the faculty at the American Institute of Musical Studies (Graz, Austria) for eleven summers.

Ling-Tam’s recent credits include conducting the Taipei Symphony and the Coro de Madrigalistas of Mexico. She has also been presenting workshops and lectures for the Children’s Palaces of NingBo, Xiamen, and Guangzhou (China); Festival 500 (Newfoundland, Canada), The Ontario Vocal Festival & Choral Conductors Symposium (Toronto, Canada), Podium 2008 (New Brunswick, Canada), the 2006 International Youth Choral Festival (Hong Kong), and the 2007 and 2009 Salzburg Pedagogical Institute Winter Workshops (Austria). Ling-Tam also served on juries for the 2007 World Youth and Children’s Choral Festivals (Hong Kong), the 45th International Choral Competition (Spittal an der Drau, Austria), the 2008 World Choir Games (Austria), the 2010 World Choir Games (Shaoxing, China), the 2012 World Choir Games (Cincinnati, Ohio), the 2014 International Ave Verum Choral Competition (Baden, Austria), the 2017-2019 World Youth and Children’s Choral Competitions (Hong Kong), and the 2019 Singapore International Festival.

During 2018-2019 she served as a Visiting Professor of Choral and Vocal Arts at the National Taiwan University of Arts. In her residency Ling-Tam also conducted concerts and held workshops in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and China. This past March, she returned to Birmingham to conduct the 2020 Alabama All State Mixed Choir for the second time. Alliance Music of Houston, Texas publishes a choral series in her name.
